The Pekingese is an independent and headstrong dog with very little fear so they will go after animals 10 times their size without thinking twice in order to protect their family. This quality makes them very good watchdogs but it can also get them into trouble due to their small size. The Pekingese should be a wonderful addition to your family.

The most cherished family companion for centuries even till date, used as a show dog that greets everyone they come across, with grace and dignity. Highly sensitive, adaptable and the best option for a novice owner. Discover more about our Pekingese puppies for sale below!
This dog breed is indeed ancient, with evidence of a DNA that proves it to be one of the oldest dog breeds. It originated in China and has been in existence there for over 2,000 years (since A. D 700). It was named after the capital city of Peking (now Beijing).
Its popularity is attributed majorly to the rise of Buddhism in China. In the 1800s it could only be owned by the members of the Chinese imperial palace, they were closely guarded and never allowed to leave the palace or the country, but they later came to the notice of the western world and has spread across the Atlantic, including the United States.
Pekingese may look fluffy, but it’s a stand-up character, tough and brave that is hidden within its appearance. They can sometimes be stubborn but are well mannered, affectionate and loyal. Full of self-importance, confidence, and dignity.
The hallmark of this breed is their outgoing, friendly and charming personality. Very smart breeds, quiet and independent. They should be made to socialize at an early stage because they can be aloof with strangers and devoted to their loved ones. They adapt quickly to training with positive reinforcement and kind consistency.
Peke as its fondly called is an ideal apartment dog, and they’ll, of course, be equally happy living in a mansion. They enjoy romping, that is why a fenced area is recommended, because they may wander off sometimes while exploring.
Regardless of their heavy coat appearance, they’re indoor pets and shouldn’t live outdoors. They’re sensitive to heat, especially their nose, an air-conditioned surrounding is best for it. You can have them as pets even with the neighbors around.
This dog breed is generally healthy, charming and develops a close bond with its family. Although calm in nature requires lots of activities and modest exercise like canine sport. At least 20-30 minutes of exercise each day is enough to keep your Pekingese healthy, strong and in good shape.
Leisure walking is one of their best outdoor activities. They like to relax on the sofa sometimes to observe the kingdom while playing, they’re so lively in nature.
The thick hair coat of the Pekingese needs a bit of maintenance because their shedding is seasonal. Brushing it with a bristle brush or metal comb, at least twice a week will help to reduce tangles and mats.
The coat length is quite long and straight with any color (black, fawn, red brindle, tan, and white). Lightly mist the hair in warm water before brushing to avoid hair breaking.
An occasional bath is needed to maintain a neat look, but the face and eyewash should be a daily routine. Trim the hair on their feet to prevent mats, trim the nails weekly, and their teeth should be brushed daily, to prevent dental disease.
Our Pekingese puppies for sale come from either USDA licensed commercial breeders or hobby breeders with no more than 5 breeding mothers. USDA licensed commercial breeders account for less than 20% of all breeders in the country.
The unregulated breeders who are selling outside of the USDA regulations and without a license are what we consider to be “Puppy Mills.” We are committed to offering Pekingese puppies who will grow up to become important members of your family. We only purchase puppies from the very best sources, and we stand behind every puppy we sell.
On a scale of 5, the barking is rated 4, which means it is average to high. It’s a vocal breed that barks loudly.
They’re average watchdogs, because if they sense something strange that won’t fail to alert you, but this isn’t their major focus.
Pekingese have a high impulse or natural instinct to catch or chase prey like cats, rats, and other small animals, but this doesn’t mean that they’re aggressive.
This breed is generally not used as a service dog. It’s not the best breed to serve this purpose.
Not really, this breed isn’t the perfect fit to be trained to detect substances like illegal drugs, blood, and explosives.
They live for approximately 13-15years, which makes it good enough for a pet.
Their energy level is really low, they live a chilled life which makes them sleep too much. A good choice for an inactive owner.
Pekingese prefers the cold weather and it adapts so well to it.
Just like all breeds, Pekingese is prone to certain health risks like; cataracts, cleft palate, cryptorchidism, distichiasis, entropion, intervertebral disk disease, and patellar luxation, but they can always be prevented or cured.
They’re surprisingly heavy, 6-9inches tall, and weighs 7-15 pounds, with a muscular and stocky body.
Pekingese are beloved companions and they enjoy being a lapdog. A cute little dog breed, with stress-free care/maintenance.
